NVIT anticipates a need for one ongoing, full-time
Custodian at the Merritt Campus and invites applications from qualified candidates. The Custodian position will be a combination of day and evening shifts, with the possibility of rotation and different shifts that may be required such as weekend work when we have events on campus. This support staff position is anticipated to start as soon as the suitable candidate is available.
Job Summary
The Custodian will work under the direction of the Manager, Facilities and in cooperation with other custodial staff, to complete general duties to ensure that all facilities are maintained, and kept clean in that NVIT is a healthy and safe environment to work in. These duties will include daily cleaning of restrooms, offices, classrooms, hallways, etc. Other duties may include washing walls, cleaning carpets, sweeping, clearing sidewalks and other outdoor tasks as required, and gym set up for special events. Concrete floors may need to be restored, burnished, and waxed therefore candidates must be physically capable of moving furniture and handling burnishing and waxing equipment. Training will be provided on the use of advanced janitorial equipment.
- Minimum of two years related experience.
- Possess the ability to work independently and in cooperation with other custodial staff.
- Demonstrates the ability to perform moderate to heavy physical work – lifting of up to 50 lbs and moving equipment manually or by rolling cart.
- You will promote a positive work atmosphere by interacting and communicating in a professional manner that demonstrates mutual respect with students and colleagues.
- Must be bondable.
- Have knowledge of Indigenous culture.
