Responsibilities
Reporting to the Communications Manager, the Digital Engagement Specialist supports YWCA Hamilton’s digital engagement and communications strategy through content creation, storytelling, audience engagement, and campaign coordination.
The role strengthens the organization’s digital presence across email, web, and social media platforms to support community engagement, advocacy, programs, and fundraising efforts. Responsibilities include leading digital content planning, supporting newsletter and email engagement strategies, and contributing to integrated communications campaigns.
The Specialist uses digital insights and audience engagement data to strengthen community connection and support long-term supporter and donor engagement. Working collaboratively across teams, the role ensures digital communications are accessible, audience-informed, and aligned with YWCA Hamilton’s values and commitment to equity, anti-racism, anti-oppression, and social justice.
KEY RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Leads digital content planning across email, web, and social platforms to support organizational priorities, campaigns, and community engagement goals;
- Develops integrated content calendars, storytelling frameworks, and audience-informed communications plans;
- Builds and maintains the organization’s newsletter and email engagement strategy, including editorial planning, segmentation, and performance optimization;
- Develops and implements audience engagement strategies that support subscriber growth, community connection, and pathways to supporter and donor engagement;
- Uses segmentation, storytelling, and engagement data to strengthen retention, participation, and conversion across digital channels;
- Collaborates with Communications, Philanthropy, Public Affairs and program teams to align digital engagement with organizational campaigns and fundraising priorities;
- Oversees newsletter coordination and distribution in collaboration with the Communications team and Manager;
- Supports digital engagement strategies that strengthen participation, advocacy, supporter cultivation, and community connection;
- Supports integrated digital campaigns across email, web, social, and community engagement initiatives;
- Identifies opportunities to deepen audience engagement and guide users through meaningful digital engagement pathways;
- Ensures consistency in messaging, storytelling, and brand voice across platforms;
- Coordinates stories, testimonials, and community-centered content to support organizational communications;
- Supports graphic design for campaigns alongside outside consultants as needed;
- Supports website content strategy, accessibility, and user experience improvements;
- Monitors digital engagement metrics across email, social, web, and campaigns;
- Monitors audience engagement and conversion trends to identify opportunities to strengthen supporter and donor journeys;
- Translates data into insights and recommendations to improve engagement and performance;
- Works with the current IT/Web Team to help improve digital workflows, processes, and consistency across the organization;
- Ensures confidentiality and privacy of sensitive records;
- Provides process and system improvement recommendations;
- Understands emerging trends, leading practices, industry professional standards, tools, and opportunities to strengthen digital engagement and visibility,
- Nurtures and forms meaningful internal and external working relationships and partnerships;
- Recommends changes to policies, processes, and systems as appropriate to improve and enhance service delivery;
- Supports YWCA Hamilton mission, vision, and values;
- Perform other duties as required.
WORKING CONDITIONS:
- Works 37.5 -hour work week; work on evenings or weekends may be required;
- May be required to travel from time to time.
Qualifications
- Post-secondary education in Communications, Digital Media or equivalent academic and/or work experience;
- 3–5 years of experience in digital communications, marketing, or content strategy;
- Experience developing digital content strategies and multi-channel campaigns;
- Strong writing, design, editorial, storytelling, and audience engagement skills;
- Experience managing email marketing and newsletter programs;
- Experience with social media, CMS platforms, email tools, and analytics/reporting tools;
- Strong skills within Canva, Web Design, Adobe Creative Suite or similar design tools;
- Strong organizational and project coordination skills;
- Must be able to lead and work from a feminist, anti-racist / anti-oppressive perspective for operations and strategic planning;
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills;
- Must provide a current Criminal record Judicial Matters or willingness to obtain at own cost;
- Ability to work independently with minimal supervision, and also work effectively in a team;
- Ability to travel as needed;
- Bilingual English/French or other languages an asset.
