Position Summary
Gilbert & Larkin LLP is seeking an Accounting Technician to join our team in Bracebridge. This role is well suited to a junior-level public practice professional who is looking to build experience in accounting, tax, and client service in a small firm environment. The successful candidate will assist with a variety of engagements and will have the opportunity to develop practical experience across both accounting and tax files. This position may also be a good fit for someone who is interested in pursuing their CPA designation in the future.
Key Responsibilities
- Assist with the preparation of year-end working papers and financial statements for corporations, sole proprietorships, and other entities
- Assist with the preparation of corporate, personal, and trust income tax returns
- Prepare bookkeeping files, account reconciliations, and adjusting entries
- Assist with GST/HST returns, payroll remittances, and other government filings
- Support review engagement files and other assurance-related work as required
- Communicate with clients to obtain information and respond to routine inquiries in a professional manner
- Maintain organized and accurate client files and documentation
- Liaise with the Canada Revenue Agency and other government authorities where appropriate
- Support partners and other team members on a variety of accounting and tax engagements
Qualifications
- Diploma or degree in accounting, commerce, or a related field
- Interest in pursuing the CPA designation is an asset
- Some experience in public accounting or bookkeeping is preferred
- Experience preparing personal tax returns, bookkeeping files, or year-end working papers is an asset
- Basic understanding of accounting principles, including double-entry bookkeeping, and Canadian tax compliance requirements
- Familiarity with accounting and tax software
- Strong Microsoft Excel and general computer skills
- Excellent attention to detail, organizational skills, and time management
- Strong written and verbal communication skills
- Ability to work independently and as part of a team
