Onyx Law Group is a boutique family law and estate litigation firm in downtown Vancouver and New Westminster that prides itself on its work culture of mentorship and collegiality. We are currently seeking a Family Paralegal to join our team in New Westminster. This position will appeal to candidates who enjoy a challenging position and a desire to learn.

The position is permanent full-time and offers an annual salary between $72,000 and $95,000 (depending on experience).

Purpose

The Family Paralegal provides essential administrative and procedural support to our legal team. This role suits a detail-oriented professional with strong organizational skills and the ability to manage a high volume of tasks in a fast-paced environment.

Main Duties & Responsibilities

  • Drafting correspondence;
  • Scanning/responding to incoming correspondence by fax, email, and courier;
  • Preparing Lists of Documents;
  • Preparing chambers binders, trial binders, book of authorities/documents, etc.;
  • Filing/process service, dealing with court agents in person and online;
  • Contributing to the maintaining of an efficient bring-forward system for all dates and correspondence to move files forward;
  • Managing lawyers’ daily calendars for all court dates and client appointments;
  • Assisting with setting hearing dates, trial dates, discovery dates, and arranging for mediations, settlement conferences, pre-trial conferences and interlocutory applications;
  • Drafting pleadings including affidavits and Form 8 Financial Statements;
  • Performing BC Online searches for corporate summaries, title search and PPSA searches;
  • Utilizing DivorceMate software to assist on drafting family law forms and pleadings;
  • Setting judicial conferences and family case conferences;
  • Obtaining marriage certificates from Vital Statistics; and
  • Stripping/closing files.

Qualifications

  • Graduate of an accredited Paralegal program;
  • A minimum of 5 years of experience as a Paralegal;
  • Strong technical skills including knowledge of custom multi-level numbering, use of styles, and cross-references in Microsoft Word;
  • Excellent file management and organization;
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills;
  • The ability to prioritize a high volume of tasks and competing priorities; and
  • Proficiency in Korean or Mandarin is preferred.
