POSITION SUMMARY

The Manager, Marketing and Fundraising is a results-driven fundraising professional dedicated to diversifying

and expanding the CMHA-CVB’s revenue streams. Under the direction of the Executive Director, the Manager,

Marketing and Fundraising leads the design and execution of a comprehensive fundraising strategy, provides

strategic leadership, and proactively cultivates partnerships and coordinates campaigns, events, and legacy

giving programs. The Manager fosters a culture of engagement, working alongside volunteers and peers to

strengthen grassroots and community connections, and exceed fundraising targets of $250,000 annually while

ensuring all efforts align with CMHA-CVB’s mission and values.

QUALIFICATIONS

Qualifications include but not limited to: A diploma or degree in Marketing/Communications, Business

Administration, Political Science, Public Administration (non-profit focus); minimum of 3 years’ experience in

fundraising with non-profit organizations; Personal vehicle and valid class 5 license and Business Insurance

POSITION DETAILS

This is a Temporary Part-Time Exempt Position extending to January 8, 2027 or upon the return of the

incumbent. It may also be extended. Thirty (30) hours per week over five (5) days. The schedule may be

variable, flexible, and change in relation to coverage required.

The rate of pay is $35.00 per hour. The position offers attractive Benefits Package effective the first date of

employment along with Municipal Pension Plan. Successful candidate to start as soon as possible.

ORGANIZATION OVERVIEW

Providing services in the Cowichan Valley since 1992, Canadian Mental Health Association - Cowichan Valley

Branch (CMHA-CVB) is a registered charity and not-for-profit, independent society operating under a branch

division agreement with CMHA British Columbia and within the context of the nation-wide Strategic Plan of

the Canadian Mental Health Association.

As part of a national organization and an advocate of mental health for all, CMHA-CVB facilitates access to

resources people need to maintain and improve mental health and wellbeing, and to participate in community

integration, build resilience, and support recovery from mental illness and/or substance use and addiction.

CMHA-CVB operates Warmland House Emergency Shelter, Transitional Housing Services, Sobering and

Assessment Centre, Mischa Lelum Youth Emergency Shelter, Adult Outreach programs, a Youth Centre/Youth

Connect, Bounce Back personal coaching, Family Capacity Program, and a variety of other

counselling/therapeutic programs for children, youth, and families.

CMHA-CVB also provides community education and advocacy aimed at the promotion of good mental health

and in support of individuals and families with mental health challenges.

Reporting to the Executive Director, the Manager of Marketing and Fundraising is a results-driven fundraising

professional dedicated to diversifying and expanding the organization’s revenue streams. This role leads the

design and execution of a comprehensive fundraising strategy that engages individual donors (annual, monthly,

and major donors), corporate partners, foundations, and community stakeholders. The Manager provides

strategic leadership across fundraising and donor relations, proactively cultivating partnerships and

coordinating campaigns, events, and legacy giving programs. With passion and drive, the Manager will foster a

culture of engagement, working alongside volunteers and peers to strengthen grassroots and community

connections, and exceed fundraising targets of $250,000 annually while ensuring all efforts align with CMHA-

CVB’s mission and values.

RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Provide leadership and oversight for all fundraising, philanthropy, donor stewardship, and legacy giving

initiatives

  • Develop and implement annual and long-term fundraising strategies that diversify revenue streams

and ensure sustainable operations resilient to austerity measures

  • Drive fundraising growth by proactively engaging community members, businesses, and organizations

to secure corporate partnerships, sponsorships, and individual donations

  • Cultivate philanthropy and steward donor relationships, managing a portfolio of individual, corporate,

and foundation supporters with tailored engagement and recognition strategies

  • Communicate the impact of CMHA Cowichan Valley programs, ensuring volunteers, donors, and

sponsors understand how their support makes a difference

  • Manage fundraising budgets, track performance, and report outcomes to senior leadership and the

Board

  • Promote opportunities and partnerships through public speaking, presentations, and face-to-face

networking

  • Identify, cultivate, and solicit new funding opportunities, including grants and philanthropic

partnerships

  • Coordinate campaigns and events, including multi-channel fundraising efforts, galas, community

fundraisers, and donor appreciation gatherings

  • Develop and execute community engagement strategies, leveraging traditional media and social

platforms (Facebook, Instagram, TikTok, LinkedIn) to expand reach and inspire participation

  • Recruit, train, and manage event volunteers, fostering collaboration and grassroots engagement
  • Create compelling content and promotional materials for campaigns, events, and donor

communications

  • Maintain and update the CMHA-CVB website, including donation pages, blog posts, and email

distribution

  • Oversee donor database (Nation builder, Canada Helps) and reporting systems, ensuring accurate

tracking, stewardship, and compliance with CRA and provincial fundraising regulations

  • Prepare regular reports on revenues, expenses, donor growth, and key performance trends
  • Collaborate across teams to align fundraising efforts with organizational mission and values, adjusting

strategies as needed

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS and ABILITIES:

  • Knowledge of mental health and addiction issues affecting adults, youth, and children, with the ability

to articulate the case for support with passion and conviction

  • Understanding of cultural competency and anti-racist practices, ensuring inclusive and equitable

engagement with donors, volunteers, and community partners

  • Familiarity with fundraising ethics and standards, including the Association of Fundraising Professionals

(AFP) Guidelines and Donor Bill of Rights

  • Technical knowledge of planned giving and charitable compliance, including bequests, gifts of life

insurance, RRSPs, and CRA charitable tax receipting rules

  • Strong local relationships within the community, with the ability to leverage networks to build trust,

inspire participation, and strengthen philanthropic support

  • Exceptional communication skills, both verbal and written, to effectively engage donors, sponsors, and

community stakeholders

  • Demonstrated success in grant writing and securing funding from diverse sources
  • Strong organizational, financial, and digital skills, including proficiency with MS Office and donor

management systems such as Nation Builder and Canada Helps

  • Proven ability to build and sustain donor relationships that inspire confidence and long-term

engagement

  • Proven ability to navigate rapidly evolving social media platforms and algorithms, with strong skills in

leveraging AI tools to optimize marketing, promotional content, and engagement across Facebook,

Instagram, TikTok, and LinkedIn

  • Ability to provide leadership and collaboration, guiding diverse teams of staff and volunteers while

fostering grassroots community engagement

  • Capacity to represent and communicate CMHA Cowichan Valley Branch’s mission and values,

integrating fundraising efforts with local community priorities

  • Flexibility to work evenings and weekends as required to support fundraising and engagement activities

QUALIFICATIONS

  • A diploma or degree in Marketing/Communications, Business Administration, Political Science, Public

Administration (non-profit focus)

  • Knowledge of local community preferred
  • Experience recruiting and managing volunteers
  • Experience in event and campaign management, including peer-to-peer fundraising and community-

based initiatives

  • A minimum of 3 years’ experience in fundraising with non-profit organizations, or Certified Fund-

Raising Executive (CFRE) certification, or an acceptable combination of education and experience

fundraising, leading social media and community engagement initiatives

  • Membership in Association of Fundraising Professionals (AFP) is an asset
  • Personal vehicle and valid class 5 license and Business Insurance
  • Successful Clearance of a Criminal Record Check for vulnerable sector
