Job Summary
Reporting to the Community Recreation Coordinator, the Program Leader is accountable for planning and implementing safe, enjoyable and diverse drop-in programs and events, and assisting the Program Instructors in assigned classes for children, youth and adults.
Job Duties Include
- Assists with the development and implementation of a safe, enjoyable sports program and/or general programming under the supervision of the Community Recreation Coordinator, working in accordance with the Program Instructor.
- Actively involved in leading/assisting all activities during program operation.
- Provides leadership, support, and resource knowledge to volunteers.
- Maintains program schedules and ensures deadlines are met.
- May be required to develop and implement weekly programs (including theme days) as well as organize all equipment and supplies for activities.
- Maintains ongoing and effective communications with parents, public, co-workers and Community Recreation Coordinator.
- Interacts with participants and creates a positive and supportive environment.
- Monitors the arrival and departure of participants from programs.
- Assists with the general maintenance of program space (sweeping, litter control etc.).
- Promotes an environment of safety and respect among participants in the program.
- Creates an environment that fosters a positive and inclusive program experience.
- Ensures that all required organizational and administrative duties are completed in a timely manner.
- Reports all injuries of any participants, staff or property damage to the Community Recreation Coordinator and fills out applicable accident / incident, property damage or WSIB forms immediately.
- Abides by the Town of Ajax policies and acts in a professional manner at all times.
- Attends all related meetings and training as required by the Community Recreation Coordinator.
- Handles concerns, complaints and suggestions from the public in a professional manner and passes these along to the Community Recreation Coordinator.
Qualifications/Skills
- Minimum 16 years of age or older.
- Previous experience working with a variety of ages in a recreational setting.
- Excellent organization, time management and planning skills.
- Self-motivated, positive, confident and approachable.
- Ability to work with minimal supervision.
- Current Standard First Aid with CPR-C certification.
- HIGH FIVE - Principles of Healthy Child Development certification.
- Able to provide a current Criminal Reference Check (including Vulnerable Sector Search) that is satisfactory to the Town (dated within last 6 months).
Nice to Have
- Preferred 1 or more years’ experience related to the delivery of programs and services.
What is Offered to Staff
- Compensation: We offer competitive pay that reflects the responsibilities of the position.
- Hours of Work: This is a non-union position that works up to 24 hours per week. The hours of work are Sunday to Saturday, various shifts between 10:00 a.m. - 10:00 p.m. Current scheduling needs for the available programs are Fridays from 4:15 – 5:45 p.m. and 5:45 p.m. – 8:15 p.m., as well as Saturdays from 9:45 a.m. – 12:00 p.m. and 12:00 p.m. – 1:15 p.m. Additional shifts may become available.
