This position operates with considerable independence, offering guidance and support in a range of situations as required. The incumbent contributes to departmental projects and initiatives, conducting research, policy analysis, and legislative reviews on specified topics, and offers coordination support for cross-divisional and cross-departmental issues as assigned by the Deputy Minister. Additional responsibilities include attending meetings with the Minister, political staff, Deputy Minister, and executive management; regularly reviewing and monitoring meeting requests and outcomes with the Deputy Minister to ensure proper follow-up by relevant departmental personnel; managing and tracking information requests from Ministerial and political staff, ensuring responses meet established standards; and maintaining effective relationships with various stakeholder groups.

Essential:

  • Experience in the planning, research, design, development and implementation of policies, programs and legislation.
  • Experience conducting research and analysis to develop briefing materials and reports for the use of senior officials in making policy, program and legislative decisions.
  • Experience building relationships and collaborating with diverse groups.
  • Strong political acumen.
  • Strong verbal communication skills.
  • Ability to organize and prioritize.
  • Strong written communication skills to prepare briefing material and other correspondence on behalf of the Deputy Minister.
  • Strong analytical, critical thinking, and problem-solving skills.
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office Suite.
