Velletta Pedersen Christie is a professional, growing downtown Victoria law firm, looking for a bright and detail oriented individual to join our civil litigation team.

We are seeking to fill a permanent, full-time position that provides excellent learning opportunities and mentorship that is ideal for the career motivated litigation assistant.

Job Responsibilities

  • Opening and organizing client files and managing file timelines;
  • Handling incoming enquires and scheduling client consultations;
  • Drafting and sending correspondence including but not limited to letters, emails, and memos;
  • Maintaining and organizing lawyers’ calendars, including client meetings and court appearances;
  • Preparing and filing documents for the Supreme Court, Provincial Court, Court of Appeal, and Land Title Office (drafting, formatting, editing, and proofreading);
  • Filing/Registering documents with BC Online and the Land Title Office;
  • Billing clients and facilitating payment of invoices;
  • Requesting, organizing, and producing client records; and
  • Preparing materials in advance of court appearances (binders, electronic folders).

The ideal candidate will have

  • 2 years experience as a legal assistant with knowledge of civil litigation;
  • Ability to prepare and manage multiple files;
  • Experience with the litigation process, including :Drafting pleadings; Requesting documents such as medical, employment, and other required records; Scheduling trials, hearings, applications, and conferences; Regular communications with clients, counsel, adjusters, and the like; Preparation of emails, letters, and memos; Limitation and service deadlines;
  • Strong organizational skills with the ability to prioritize work and meet strict deadlines in a fast paced environment;
  • Ability to work independently as well as part of a team;
  • Maintains a positive, can do attitude;
  • Enthusiastic about advancing their career; and
  • Strong working knowledge of legal software.

Salary

$45,000 to $65,000, Commensurate with the candidates number of year’s experience

Working Conditions:

  • Monday – Friday 8:30 AM – 5:00 PM
  • 1 hour lunch break
