Job title: Senior Solutions Architect – Application Portfolio Modernization (APM)
Location: Brampton (Hybrid 3 days in office)
Type: Contract 1 year (extendable)

Overview
Our client, a large public sector organization in the Greater Toronto Area, is seeking a Senior Solutions Architect to support an Application Portfolio Modernization (APM) Program.
This initiative focuses on assessing and improving the organization’s technology application portfolio to reduce technical debt, security risks, and lifecycle issues while aligning applications with enterprise architecture and digital strategy.
The successful candidate will play a key role in architectural planning, application lifecycle management, and enterprise system integration across a complex environment consisting of on-premise and cloud-based applications.
Key Responsibilities
- Define and maintain metrics and frameworks to measure the health and lifecycle condition of enterprise applications.
- Recommend upgrade, maintenance, replacement, or retirement strategies to improve application portfolio performance and reduce technical debt.
- Develop technology roadmaps and architecture strategies aligned with enterprise digital initiatives.
- Perform application assessments and provide recommendations for modernization or replacement initiatives.
- Create and maintain solution architecture documents, including current-state and target-state architecture.
- Ensure all solutions align with enterprise architecture principles, IT security standards, and governance policies.
- Review architecture and configuration documentation provided by third-party vendors.
- Lead architecture design discussions with technical teams and business stakeholders.
- Provide technical leadership and architectural guidance throughout project lifecycles.
- Design scalable and maintainable systems that integrate effectively with existing enterprise platforms.
- Develop and maintain architecture blueprints and evolution roadmaps (1–5 years).
- Provide architecture oversight for new application development and system integrations.
- Support data architecture and information management initiatives, including logical data models and database mapping.
Required Experience & Skills
- University or college degree in Computer Science, Information Systems, or a related discipline.
- Minimum 5+ years of advanced experience in enterprise solution architecture and application development environments.
- Proven experience designing high-performance, scalable enterprise systems.
- Experience with application portfolio management, modernization, or rationalization initiatives.
- Strong understanding of enterprise architecture frameworks and governance models.
- Experience with object-oriented analysis and design, UML, design patterns, and service-oriented architecture.
- Experience working with enterprise integration technologies and web services.
Technical Expertise
Experience with several of the following technologies:
- Java, C#, or .NET development environments
- XML, JSON, JavaScript, HTML5
- REST / SOAP web services
- Enterprise application servers and web servers
- SQL and enterprise databases such as SQL Server, Oracle, or DB2
- Application lifecycle management and architecture governance frameworks
Certifications (Mandatory)
Candidates must hold all of the following certifications:
- ITIL Foundation Certification (or higher)
- COBIT Foundation Certification (or higher)
- PMBOK Foundation Certification or PMP
- SDLC Foundation Certification (or higher)
Proof of certification will be required during submission.
Additional Skills
- Strong written communication skills with experience preparing architecture blueprints, design documentation, and technical proposals.
- Ability to lead architecture design sessions with technical teams and business stakeholders.
- Knowledge of enterprise IT service delivery frameworks such as SDLC, PMBOK, COBIT, and ITIL.
- Understanding of emerging technologies, digital transformation, and business process modernization.
Contract Details
- 1 year contract with strong possibility of extension
