Incorporated in 1955, Ocean Steel has grown to become one of the largest steel fabricators in Eastern Canada and one of the most respected steel suppliers on the Eastern Seaboard. It services several markets, including all of Canada, the Eastern United States, Bermuda and the Caribbean. Ocean designs, fabricates and erects structural steel for buildings and bridges. It also manufactures and installs platework, such as breechings, stacks, ducts, penstocks, process & storage tanks and custom process-equipment. Ocean Steel has two, modern New Brunswick-based plants in Saint John and in Fredericton. We currently have sales offices in Saint John, New Brunswick, Ontario, and Burlington, Massachusetts.

Job Summary

Ocean Steel Ltd. has an exciting opportunity for a Detailer with a desire to continue learning on the job. The Detailer will develop extensive steel product knowledge and follow department procedures for preparation of drawings, and bills of material. This position requires high attention to detail, to analyze schedules, specifications, architectural, structural, and steel fabricator drawings. The ideal candidate must be comfortable working within rigid time constraints, and can interact with Ocean Steel’s Engineers, Project Managers, Salespeople, Estimators, Production Supervisors, and Field Erectors.

Responsibilities

• Detailing structural steel using SDS2 software by Allplan
• Accurately producing drawings to meet contract specifications
• Effectively utilizing detailing software to produce quality drawings
• Thoroughly cross-checking architectural & structural contract drawings for conflicts and checking connection access for erection
• Other duties as assigned

Technical Requirements

• Civil Engineering Technology graduate or previous experience in the construction industry along with the ability to read blueprints
• Experience with architectural drafting or detailing software
• Previous experience in the construction industry is an asset
